In November 2011, President Barack Obama travelled to the APEC Summit in Honolulu, then visited Australia, and finally the Asian Economic Summit in Bali. Declaring that “the United States is a Pacific nation”, the President told audiences that he planned to repoint US foreign policy in the direction of the Asia Pacific.
