For more than a quarter of a century, Simon has been covering major events worldwide for a wide array of leading international broadcasters.  

In the late 1980s, he covered the revolutions that brought Communism's collapse in Eastern Europe.  From 1991 - 1993 he was based in Moscow and charted Mikhail Gorbachev's demise and Boris Yeltsin's rise.

Based in Washington since 1993, Simon has covered 5 American elections with a 6th just around the corner.  He covered the attack on Oklahoma City, the threat to impeach President Bill Clinton, the tragic events of September 11th 2001, the US decision to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

OBAMA'S HISTORIC VICTORY - LIVE COVERAGE

In November 2008, Simon anchored Channel News Asia's coverage of the historic election of Barack Obama as US President. In this excerpt of coverage from that extraordinary evening, Simon anchors the breaking news of Barack Obama's victory, and interviews FSN correspondents Malcolm Brown at McCain Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, Nathan King at the Obama victory celebrations in Grant Park, Chicago, and Daniel Ryntjes at the White House.

ATTEMPTED COUP AGAINST GORBACHEV - DAY 1

On August 19th 1991, the Soviet people woke to news of an attempt to overthrow President Mikhail Gorbachev, the architect of "glasnost" and "perestroika". The coup, led by the so-called "Gang of Eight", brought Red Army tanks onto the streets of Moscow.  Simon covered the three day coup for "World Monitor" in America's Discovery Channel.

Three days after it began, the coup against Mikhail Gorbachev collapsed in Moscow.  Simon's eyewitness report aired on "World Monitor" on America's "Discovery Channel".

At the end of a dramatic year that witnessed an attempted coup against his rule, and the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party's authority, President Mikhail Gorbachev bowed to the inevitable on December 25, 1991.

SUPERSTORM SANDY - LIVE COVERAGE

In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast of the United States and became the second-costliest hurricane in US history. Simon provided this live coverage of the storm's arrival in Washington for pan-Asian network Channel NewsAsia.

GADDAFI DIES - THE US REACTION

On October 20th 2011, the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was captured by forces loyal to the country's National Transitional Council, and then killed. President Obama, speaking at the White House, hailed the Colonel's demise as proof that "the rule of an iron fist inevitably comes to an end".

OBAMA'S CUBA BREAKTHROUGH

President Obama's decision to engage in a sudden thaw in relations with Cuba ended more than 50 years of animus between Washington and Havana. Simon filed this report from Washington for pan-Asian broadcaster Channel NewsAsia.

OBAMACARE UPHELD BY US SUPREME COURT

On June 28 2012, the US Supreme Court handed Barack Obama a seismic political victory by upholding the constitutionality of his Affordable Care Act - his signature legislative achievement during his first term in office. Derided by the Republicans as "Obamacare", Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney vowed to repeal the law on his first day in the White House.
